The day your Tiny Home Pod is delivered is incredibly exciting. To ensure it’s a seamless and stress-free event, a little preparation goes a long way. A well-prepared site means a faster, safer installation, allowing you to enjoy your new space sooner.
Here is your essential site preparation checklist.
1. Confirm Council Compliance (Again!) Before you prepare the ground, do one final check that you have met all local council requirements, whether that’s a permit or simply an acknowledgement of local laws for moveable dwellings.
2. Ensure Clear Site Access Our delivery trucks are large. You need to ensure there is a clear, unobstructed path from the road to the final location of your pod.
- Measure Everything: Check the width of your driveway, gates, and the path itself.
- Look Up: Check for low-hanging tree branches or power lines.
- Inform Neighbours: If access is tight, give your neighbours a friendly heads-up that a large truck will be coming through.
3. Prepare a Level Foundation Your pod needs to sit on a flat, stable, and level surface. You have several options, ranging in cost and permanence:
- Compacted Gravel/Crusher Dust: This is the most common and cost-effective option for a moveable pod.
- Concrete Blocks or Pads: Placing engineered concrete blocks at levelling points is a great semi-permanent solution.
- Concrete Slab: For a more permanent installation (often required if you’re classing it as a building), a full concrete slab is the best choice.
4. Plan Your Utility Connections Think about how you’ll service your pod. It’s much easier to run conduits and pipes before the pod is in place.
- Power: Will you run an extension lead from the main house, or will a licensed electrician install a dedicated underground power supply?
- Water: Can you connect a standard garden hose, or do you need a plumber to install a permanent water line?
- Sewerage/Greywater: Are you connecting to the main sewer line, using a composting toilet, or installing a greywater dispersion system? Plan the location of any trenches.
5. Clear the Immediate Area The site itself needs to be clear of any debris, overhanging vegetation, rocks, or old garden beds. This ensures our delivery team can work safely and efficiently to place the pod perfectly.
6. Consider the Final Orientation Stand on your prepared foundation and think about the sun. Which way should the windows face to capture the morning light? How can you maximise privacy from the main house or neighbours? A few degrees of rotation can make a world of difference.
7. Keep Communication Open On delivery day, be available to meet the driver and confirm the final placement. Clear communication is the final, crucial step to a perfect installation.
